If you are just starting an exercise regimen, you will soon realize that working out is only half the battle. Eating right is the very important other half. Try not to think of eating smart as "dieting". Diets tend to be temporary. You need to focus on long term eating habits. Some easy ways to start:
1. Cut "empty calorie" foods from your diet (Soda's, candy bars, chips ). These foods are loaded with fast-absorbing carbs that raise your blood sugar quickly.
2. Eat protein, good fats, and fiber. Protein fills you up while you're eating and provides the raw material to help you maintain and build muscle. Fat tastes good and keeps you satisfied for hours after a meal. And fiber, which is also filling, slows down the absorption of carbohydrates into your bloodstream, so you'll have energy all day long.
3. In the morning, you have an entire day's worth of activity to fuel. After dinner, you're basically lying motionless as you wind your day down.
